There are 2 principles when it comes to learning new techniques. 1. Any technique, not just new techniques can cause a complication. The key is to perform the new technique CORRECTLY and this only comes with a lot of repetition and experience. 2. One should not judge the safety or effectiveness of a technique unless that person has actually performed the technique and developed some experience with it. I have performed this technique on thousands of cases without causing zonular damage. The only way to cause damage is if the chopper is outside of the bag, which would be incorrect. If the chopper is placed within the capsular fornix and INSIDE the capsular bag, this technique is exceptionally efficient, effective, and has made me a better surgeon with less complications, clearer corneas, less zonular problems, and better outcomes. I encourage all surgeons to try this technique before passing judgement. Best, Brian
