This video demonstrates the vertical chopping technique, which is my preferred approach to hypermature cataracts. I use the divide and conquer, or stop and chop for the vast majority of cases. However, being able to change techniques in order to maximize success is important given the variability seen between cataracts.

I am using the Seibel Safety Quick Chopper from Rhein (part number 08-14535-R).

I am using a peristaltic pump on the Alcon Infinity phaco unit. Hydrodissection can be performed, but you need to be very cautious. It is usually unnecessary in white cataracts and the risk is usually not worth the reward.

Very good surgery! Hydrodissection is possible however? Do you use Venturi or peristaltic pompe?
