Thick Soemmering Ring Removal and PCIOL Exchange

This video presents the removal of a dislocated three-piece IOL in the presence of a large posterior capsule rupture and its exchange with an Akreos IOL (Bausch + Lomb) sutured at the sclera in four points with Gore-Tex sutures. Before implanting the new IOL, Ozana Moraru, MD, managed the associated thick Soemmering ring, which is removed both with the cutter and manually through the main incision. Because some small parts of the Soemmering cortex fell posteriorly, a complete pars plana vitrectomy followed with removal of the fragments dropped in the retina.
