A cataract patient with a history of pars planitis presented with a thickened, white, fibrotic anterior capsule. After an unsuccessful attempt to start a capsulotomy with forceps, a can opener technique with a cystotome began the capsulorhexis and microscissors were used to complete the opening.

This is a very important option to have in one's armamentarium. I keep on hand the 20 gauge straight retina scissors, 20 gauge curved retina scissors and retina grasping forceps.
