PC-IOL Implantation and Artificial Iris in Post-Traumatic Aphakia and Aniridia

Show Description +

In this case, an 18-year-old patient presented with a history of severe eye trauma, which led to almost total aniridia and a traumatic cataract. The emergency operation left remnants of capsule and cortex. Ozana Moraru, MD, performed secondary implantation of an Akreos PC-IOL (Bausch + Lomb) sutured at the sclera with an artificial iris. The surgery consists of a large anterior vitrectomy by anterior approach, followed by the suture of both the artificial iris and Akreos IOL, together in a block, using Gore-Tex sutures in four points.
