Multifocal IOL Exchange

Show Description +

This video demonstrates the use of a SMILE lenticule dissector to help conduct safe IOL exchange. The patient is a 77-year-old woman who was unhappy with quality of vision following implantation of a multifocal IOL 6 months previously in her right eye. She had subsequently undergone cataract surgery with a monofocal IOL in her fellow eye and was more satisfied with quality of vision in this eye. Examination showed low refractive error and evidence of epithelial basement membrane dystrophy. The IOL was stable, central and well positioned and there was no evidence of posterior capsular opacification. After a thorough discussion, she consented for IOL exchange with a monofocal IOL.
