Amar Agarwal, FRCS, described the IOL scaffold technique to prevent nucleus drop in posterior capsule rents in 2011. Since then the technique has evolved for use in different situations such as IOL exchange where the IOL acts as a barrier to the posterior capsule and provide continuos distention of the bag. The technique can also prove useful in removal of Soemmering ring.
