Intumescent Cataract

Show Description +

This video features standard phacoemulsification in a case of intumescent white cataract. The key point here is to puncture the anterior capsule with a 27G needle with the immediate aspiration of the liquefied cortex. This helps to avoid the Argentinian flag sign. The creation of a small rhexis is aimed at the beginning which can be enlarged after IOL implantation. Vertical chopping is a suitable technique to work through this relatively small rhexis.
