Are Pupil Expanders Necessary?

Many people are obsessed with pupil expansion devices such as the Malyugin Ring or i-Ring. There is an option many are forgetting and is very forgiving for the pupillary margin overall. It also is more efficient and requires less manipulation of the eye.

As a technique, pupil stretching works. But in case where a multifocal is planned, I would never do this simply because its uncontrolled. Also during hydro procedure I like to see the tip of my cannula before I inject. And the chopping technique has to be slightly different in a small pupil with a soft cataract.

Thanks Ari. Appreciate the kind remarks. I am showing this for those that don't stretch pupils and hopefully help them in situations when they don't want to use a malyugin and such.
