SMILE: A Step Ahead of Other Refractive Surgery Procedures

Show Description +

Dan Z. Reinstein, MD, MA(Cantab), FRCSC, DABO, FRCOphth, FEBO, debunks some common misconceptions about small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and says that what makes the procedure unique to other refractive surgery treatments is the control of spherical aberration. For the same prescription, SMILE will leave the cornea 30% stronger than LASIK, Dr. Reinstein says, adding that the better biomechanics of SMILE help lead to better postoperative outcomes.
