Don't Wrestle the Pupil!

Show Description +

Because the pupil's size often decreases when patients are being wheeled to the OR for cataract surgery, Johnny Gayton, MD, decided to investigate the use of phenylephrine + ketorolac 1%/0.3% in traditional phacoemulsification and laser procedures. The combination injection maintained or increased pupillary diameter in both types of surgery. Dr. Gayton says that this strategy keeps him from having to “wrestle” with the pupil.
