Ocular Surface Disease Winner

Case Information

A 57-year-old female presented to Emilie Seitz, OD, with dry eye disease. She had a medical history of pemphigus, LASIK OU (2002), and bariatric surgery. Her visual acuity was 20/50+2 OD and 20/25 OS. The patient was diagnosed with filamentary keratitis OD, meibomian gland dysfunction OU, and keratoconjunctivitis sicca OU. Bloodwork also showed early Sjögren’s syndrome. He was treated with a dry amniotic membrane with overlying bandage contact lens, acetylcysteine TID OD, Regener-Eyes TID OU, and Intense Pulsed Light therapy. Since initiating treatment, the patient’s symptoms have subjectively improved.


Medical History:

Pemphigus, Hypothyroidism


Concomitant Medications:

Levothyroxine, Calcium, Prednisone (prn)


Diagnosis:

Filamentary Keratitis, Sjögren's syndrome


Treatment:

Dry amniotic membrane with overlying bandage contact, antibiotic oin lens
