Neurotrophic Keratitis Winner

Case Information

An 18-year-old female presented to Brent Kramer, MD, with a medical history of complex regional pain syndrome, initially affecting the right lower extremity with progressive spreading to the bilateral upper extremities and the right side of her face. She had decreased vision, eye pain, and recurrent corneal erosions. The patient was treated with superficial keratectomy, amniotic membrane graft, bandage contact lens, plasma rich growth factor tears, and an 8-week course of Cenegermin-Bkbj (Dompe). Eleven months after treatment, the patient had improved visual acuity, resolution of ocular symptoms, and increased corneal sensation.


Medical History:

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome


Concomitant Medications:

Gabapentin, Amitriptyline, and Oxcarbazepine


Corneal Sensitivity:

2cm (Cochet-Bonnet)


Diagnosis:

Neurotrophic Keratitis secondary to Complex Regional Pain Syndrome


Treatment:

Superficial keratectomy, amniotic membrane, plasma rich growth factor tears, Cenegermin-Bkbj
