Saving an Eye

Show Description +

A patient presents with a posterior subcapsular cataract and extensive radiation retinopathy. She underwent radioactive plaque therapy for choroidal melanoma which was deemed successful at the time. The patient then developed a cataract and "overlapping vision," meaning that the remaining light perception in the right eye affected vision in the left eye. She described shadows that made reading and everyday life so difficult that she contemplated an enucleation. Robert Osher, MD; James Augsburger, MD; and Jens Kratholm, MD, form an international collaboration to save the eye.
