i suppose its meant in cases where the posterior hyaloid is not very densely layered with blood. One will have to visualise the fluorocarbon induced dissection to be safe

Do you not be afraid with the possibility that the PFLC pass beyond the retina if you create a hole in the posterior pole, when you dissect the membranes? Sergio Ribeiro - Lisbon

I prefer this technique in most cases. Certainly, sometimes a combination of techniques may be necessary. However, starting the case with EBPD and continuing with it to peel all epiretinal tissue or combining techniques has made my life much easer!
