Temporary Keratoprosthesis in Two Cases

Show Description +

Gurkan Erdogan, MD, presents two cases involving a temporary keratoprosthesis. In the first case, encircling scleral buckle surgery was combined with vitrectomy and keratoplasty. A Landers type temporary keratoprosthesis was placed in this case with retinal detachment and corneal opacity. There was a functional and previously implanted Ahmed glaucoma valve so the cerclage band was passed under the plate. The intraocular portion of the tube of implant didn't impact surgery.

In the second case, the cylindrical optic part of the Landers type keratoprosthesis constitutes an obstacle to translimbal application of iris hooks. The surgeons placed iris hooks in retro-iris position through small scleral incisions to overcome this problem.
