Arthur Cummings, MD, shares the latest technique to treat advanced keratoconus by reshaping the cornea prior to cross-linking. The Keraflex procedure is performed with the Vedera KXS which delivers a single low energy microwave pulse. The energy pulse raises the temperature of the targeted corneal stroma which causes collagen shrinking and forms a toroidal lesion in the upper 150 microns of the stroma. The lesion created during Keraflex is intended to flatten the central cornea to achieve myopic correction without compromising the biomechanical integrity of the cornea.
