One of the challenges of Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty is harvesting the membrane without tearing tissue or damaging cells. Pavel Stodulka, MD, presents a faster, safer method for membrane separation. Stodulka and his team have termed this process "hydrosepration." A small tear is made at the periphery of Descemet's membrane through which a stream of balanced salt solution is instilled to separate the membrane. After the donor cornea trephined, Descemet's membrane is peeled off easily.
