Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Penetrating Keratoplasty

Show Description +

Marjan Farid, MD, presents her femtosecond laser-assisted penetrating keratoplasty technique using the IntraLase FS30 laser. The laser allows for customized trephination patterns, such as the “zig-zag” pattern, which creates a very smooth transition between the donor and host tissues. With a 50% suture depth, the sutures fall right into the middle of the zig-zag pattern, bringing the tissues into perfect apposition. She also makes tiny radial marks on the tissue with the laser to guide suturing, which helps to eliminate torque and rotational misalignment. [No audio]
