CO2: A New Tool for Non Penetrating Glaucoma Surgery

CO2 Laser-Assisted Sclerectomy Surgery (CLASS) procedure is an alternative to the manual non penetrating deep sclerectomy. The CO2 laser properties allows photo ablation of dry scleral tissue and coagulation of bleeding vessels. Furthermore, the radiation emitted being absorbed by water during percolation, the deep trabecular meshwork is protected during the procedure. Inadvertent perforation become unlikely and the safety profile is enhanced.
