Homayoun Tabandeh, MD, FASRS, describes the surgical steps for the SWIFT technique for the treatment of a macular hole. The ILM has been removed from the central macular region, and a flap is harvested from the superior residual ILM. The flap is inverted and positioned over the MH. The infusion line is cleared of fluid prior to the positioning of the flap. Fluid–air exchange is completed while taking care to keep the flap in place.
