Macular Hole Surgery: Retinal Massager

Show Description +

Macular hole surgery is one of the most common vitreoretinal procedures. Classic surgical steps include doing a PVD induction and ILM peel followed by air fluid exchange. Various adjuncts such as ILM stuffing are done by various surgeons. We have devised a new titanium instrument called the Retina Massager which is used to gently massage the edges of the macular hole after ILM peeling which help approximate the margins. After air fluid exchange, the hole closes or becomes a pin point during surgery.

Do you think I could use the closed ILM forceps to actually massage the hole centripetally, very slow ana applying very gentle force towards the center?

Excellent video than you. What are the retinal massager advantages over using either the 25 gauge Vitrector itself or the Alcon Loop Peeler?
