Shaolin Retina Episode I: Yamane-Style IOL Rescue and Refixation

Show Description +

This Shaolin-themed video figured in a recent lecture outlining my Zen-like approach to minimalistic retinal care. Featured is the Yamane-style rescue of a dislocated IOL in a woman 3 years removed from uneventful cataract surgery. While I am by no means the most experienced Yamane practitioner on the planet, this case highlights many hard-won pearls having now performed 20 or so such cases. I am indebted to Ashkan Abbey, MD, a true master of this art, for his tutelage and encouragement. Despite a floppy iris and poor pupillary dilation (3 mm), you will note excellent peripheral visualization afforded by Alcon's Ngenuity system.
