Silicone oil adherence to the surface of an IOL made of silicone can obstruct visualization. Christopher Riemann, MD, describes his "hydraulic squeegee" technique for oil removal using a bent cannula to create a jet stream of BSS to dislodge the viscid silcone oil from the posterior side of the IOL.
