Shlomit Schaal, MD, PhD; Janelle Fassbender, MD, PhD; and Denis Jusubegovic, MD; demonstrate essential steps to repair a primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, using a 25G minimally invasive vitrectomy technique. Steps include anterior vitrectomy, relief of traction from the area of the retinal tear, complete vitrectomy, drainage of sub-retinal fluid from the tear, and the surrounding of tear with endo-laser photo-coagulation. The eye is filled with air which is then replaced with SF6 gas. The surgery is concluded with removal of trocars.
