Most cataract surgeons are familiar with the use of a flat cannula for hydrodissection and rotation of the lens nucleus. Sometimes, a phaco chopper can be inserted after hydrodissection to ensure that the lens will spin. This DIY technique shows how a 27-guage anterior chamber cannula can be fashioned into the shape of a phaco chopper. While it’s not actually used for chopping, this tool provides both efficient hydrodissection and easy rotation.
