Following a severe corneal burn, a patient undergoes amniotic membrane transplantation. Once the eye is quiet and white, a 360 degree conjunctival peritomy is performed to open the space between the conjunctiva and cornea revealing a completely clear cornea underneath. An amniotic membrane graft is then secured over the cornea and conjunctiva with fibrin glue. Limbal cells and conjunctiva are then harvested from the donor eye and transplanted to the recipient eye.

Very nice tecnique! I have a few questions: if you found a clear cornea after the 360 degree conjunctival peritomy, why did you decide to put another membrane graft and to perform a limbal transplantation? Why not doing it only if the underneath cornea had been still unclear? Thanks
