Navilas Navigated Retinal Laser Therapy: A New Era in Retinal Disease Management

Show Description +

The ease-of-use and value to the patient of navigated retinal laser therapy using the Navilas are discussed by William R. Freeman, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Retina Center at the University of California, San Diego and Igor Kozak, MD, PhD, Director of Clinical Trials at the Jacobs Retina Center.

Using the case of a particular patient as an example, Drs. Freeman and Kozak compare retinal surgery with the Navilas to conventional approaches using a slit lamp. The ability to import images from other devices, such as a fluorescein angiogram, and lock that image to the view from the Navilas fundus camera for planning and executing treatment is shown.

Other topics discussed are the use of laser therapy vs. ant-VEGF treatments, the ability to use the Navilas without a contact lens for focal therapy and with a contact lens for peripheral therapy and the ability of the Navilas to save and print detailed treatment reports.
