Nonclearing Vitreous Hemorrhage and More

A 50-year-old man who had undergone a ruptured globe repair 2 weeks prior and was aphakic presented with nonclearing vitreous hemorrhage. Recognizing that sometimes surprises can arise in these trauma cases, Michael Klufas, MD, kept in mind that nonclearing vitreous hemorrhage may not be the only issue present in this case. Soon after removing the patient's vitreous hemorrhage and inspecting his retina, Dr. Klufas discovered a tractional retinal detachment that was very peripheral and without a rhegmatogenous component. Switching approaches and preparing for a longer case, Dr. Klufas details the next surgical steps he took in this patient's treatment.
