Exploring Surgical Options for a Young Glaucoma Patient

Rachel G. Simpson, MD; Roya Garakani, DO; and Craig J. Chaya, MD, review a case in which a younger pre-presbyopic patient had presented with mild-stage glaucoma. After initial treatment with selective laser trabeculoplasty and topical drops was not successful, Dr. Chaya performed goniotomy to attempt to rejuvenate the patient’s natural outflow system. There was no improvement in IOP, and with limited options remaining, Dr. Chaya performed a clear lens extraction with iStent infinite (Glaukos) implantation.
