Julie Schallhorn, MD, and colleagues studied the effects of gender and age on patient-reported dry eye after primary LASIK. Although women reported more frequent and severe dry eye before surgery, Dr. Schallhorn says that there was no relative difference between men and women 3 months postoperatively, with both reporting more frequent and severe dry eye after LASIK. The investigators found age had no influence on dry eye outcomes.
