Sami Uwaydat, MD, and Dania Rahal describe the acute changes observed in the optic nerve head following intravitreal injections, including posterior displacement of the lamina cribrosa and a deepening appearance of the cup. In the study, "Optic Nerve Head Structural Changes After Intravitreal Injection", patients who had received a greater number of prior intravitreal injections demonstrated an attenuated acute response in the optic nerve head compared to patients with fewer prior injections. This may suggest sustained anatomical changes in the optic nerve head with repeated injections, raising the question of whether these may contribute to glaucomatous changes over time.
