ELT: Excimer Laser Trabeculostomy, a Better Way to Treat Open-Angle Glaucoma

Show Description +

Michael Berlin, MD, presents his ELT (Excimer Laser Trabeculostomy) technique, a minimally invasive, outpatient surgical procedure which corrects the anatomical pathology responsible for most open-angle glaucoma. A 308 nm excimer laser is used to ablate the trabecular meshwork without inducing a scaring response. Outflow obstruction at the juxtacanalicular trabecular meshwork and the inner wall of Schlemm's canal is reduced, resulting in a significant and lasting decrease of IOP.
