McCabe Belt Loop Technique for Scleral Fixation

Channels: Cataract Surgery | Posted 5/10/2019

The McCabe Belt Loop Technique for Scleral Fixation is a novel technique for fixating a dislocated intraocular lens implant (PCIOL) to the sclera. A cut piece of 5-0 prolene is used to create a 'belt loop' around the haptic with the ends externalized and treated with low temperature cautery to create a flange. The flange is then tucked under conjunctiva and lays flush against the eye wall. The dislocated multifocal IOL is repositioned and perfectly centered and stable with no loss of vitreous.
