Zia ul Mazhry, MD, shares his experience with a scleral flap retraction technique to facilitate fashioning of sclerotomy during trabeculectomy. An internal sclerotomy is an essential component of trabeculectomy for glaucoma. Various techniques have been described for proper exposure during this vital and delicate surgical maneuver, however there are many situations where equipment is not available or the surgeon prefers to use knife blade for sclerotomy.
