Temporary Keratoprothesis in Ocular Trauma

  Channels: Retina | Posted 9/15/2011

In cases of corneal opacification and retinal pathology, a temporary keratoprothesis (TKP) allows for visualization of the intraocular structures and facilitates the treatment of anterior and posterior diseases in a single procedure. Cesare Forlini, MD, presents the use of a TKP in the "Pole to Pole" strategy for a 39-year-old male with previous PPV and PK following a penetrating trauma. The patient has graft compensation, total retinal detachment, and vision is light perception.
