John Hovanesian, MD, discusses clear corneal incisions and his developments in research for the correction of cataract wounds with moderator Terry Kim, MD.
Dr. Hovanesian explains his efforts in developing the calibrated force gauge, which is based upon a dental instrument, with a fine point of 1.5 square millimeters at the tip. The device is designed to put pressure on the surface of the cornea. It was developed to test wounds under clinical study conditions to see if they would leak. He concluded that 40% of wounds, when tested, leak spontaneously.
