How to Discuss Cataracts with Your Patients

  Channels: Optometry | Posted 2/25/2016

Marc Bloomenstein, OD, introduces "Challenging Patient Dialogues," a new video series tackling the question of how to discuss complex ocular conditions and symptoms with patients. In the first episode, Dr. Bloomenstein talks about how he approaches the conversation when he is diagnosing a patient with cataracts. He says it is important to speak positively of the advanced technology that will treat the cataract and improve the patient’s refractive outcomes, rather than focusing solely on the negative aspects of the condition. Dr. Bloomenstein provides a number of examples of the terminology he uses to explain cataracts to his patients in a way that they can easily understand.
