Antibiotic Resistance in Bacterial Keratitis

Eduardo Alfonso, MD, sheds light on antibiotic resistance in the setting of bacterial keratitis. Dr. Alfonso says there is about a 25% chance that an unresponsive corneal ulcer may be caused by micro-organisms that are not covered by commercially available topical antibiotics. He discusses the use of fortified antibiotics for multidrug-resistant keratitis and future alternative therapies for difficult-to-cure infections.
