Giant Retinal Tear Trauma (3D)

Show Description +

Maria H. Berrocal, MD, presents a case of a 76-year-old male who had undergone surgery for a traumatic giant retinal tear, cataracts, dislocated lens, and hyphema. He detached again under oil 2 months later. We performed oil removal, subretinal membrane removal with the vitrectomy probe, per fluorocarbon liquids injection to flatten the retina, and a direct silicone oil/perfluorocarbon liquid exchange. The patient has remained attached 3 months postoperatively. VA improved from light perception to 6/200.
