The authors provide an overview of pre-chopping and demonstrate useful techniques for pre-chopping the lens in microincisional surgery (MICS). Some of the pre-chopping techniques presented utilize a bimanual, twin instrument approach for counter chopping (Alio), cross-action cracking forceps (Akahoshi), hydro chopping cannula (Fukasaku), and ultrasonic ultrachopper (Escaf).
