Show Description +
Aleksandra Rachitskaya, MD, discusses how intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT) may be used in surgery for implantation of the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis (Second Sight). To illustrate the use of iOCT during this surgery, Dr. Rachitskaya cites the example of a case where surgeons were unsure if the tack, which fastens the device's array to the posterior segment, had properly penetrated the necessary ocular tissues. The surgeons in this case relied on iOCT to show that the tack was in fact in place.
