Show Description +

As explained by Mauricio Maia, MD, PhD, 282 eyes of newborns and 278 eyes of mothers were evaluated at two centers in Brazil. Although the mothers had no signs of ocular Zika virus infection, 30% to 45% of newborns showed fundus lesions. The pattern of the fundus abnormalities included choroidal atrophy at the macula, optic nerve abnormalities, mottling of the macula, chorioretinal atrophy of the macula, or a combination of these lesions.
