How Demodex Mites Cause Disease

An overgrowth of Demodex mites can cause disease in three main ways – mechanical, chemical, and bacterial. As the mites feed on the oils in the glands of the eyelids, they create collarettes that are composed of mite waste products and eggs and cause inflammation of the eyelid and ocular surface.
