The problem was probably not the nylon but the needle. You neeed to use a blood vessel(BV) or Vascular(VAS) needle as these will not cut the thin conj tissue.

I tried this recently but experience fraying of the conjunctival pedicle and cheesewiring of my suture. It could have been because I was using 10-0 nylon. I'll try it again with 9-0 vicryl.

fyi--misnomer--this is a fornix based conj flap. also- typo (assitant). i will use this closure next time! i like it a lot.
