Sutureless ECCE Aboard Mercy Africa

Operating aboard the Africa Mercy, part of Mercy Ships' fleet of floating hospitals that serve the developing world, Glenn Strauss, MD, performs a manual sutureless extracapsular cataract extraction via a long, funnel-shaped scleral tunnel. Adoption of the technique demonstrated in this video is beneficial for missionary work due to the reduced learning curve, increased efficiency, and lower risk of induced astigmatism.

seems to me puting a one pice foldable lense is not the best idea in a can opener capsulotomy. higher risk of Uveitis Glaucoma Syndrome. not so adecuate in Diabetes Mellitus Patients nor in glaucoma patients.

I volunteer with the Flying Doctors on the west coast and operate in Mexico November thru March. Consider joining us to learn this technique.

Lucid presentation.

Hydrodissection should be done. Then only rotatation. make a frown incision. This reduces astigmatism

Nice video. I usually do the I/A for lens matter from the side port. This helps in keeping the anterior chamber deep and also lens matter at 12O'clock comes out very easily. Also use side port for rotating the IOL.
