Phacoemulsification in Pseudoexfoliation
Arup Chakrabarti, MD, Sonia John, MD, and Meena Chakrabarti, MD, demonstrate phacoemulsification in an eye with a mature cataract and pseudoexfoliation. Under a soft shell technique, a large capsulorhexis is made with a cystotome. Thorough cortical cleaving hydrodissection is especially important in PXF cases. After confirming the nucleus rotates freely, the surgeon makes a deep trench with the phaco tip and then begins vertical chopping.
