Episode 7: Delayed Vitrectomy for Retained Lens Fragments

In this episode of Retina Today Journal Club moderator Richard Kaiser, MD, discusses of dropped lens fragments, with Szilárd Kiss, MD, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Physician at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Kiss reviewed different case scenarios to determine the overall effects to patients who undergo a combined cataract-vitrectomy procedure vs delaying vitrectomy to retrieve lens fragments. The initial hypothesis was that a combined procedure would result in faster visual recovery and improved visual outcomes; however, results proved no difference in the ultimate visual outcome of patients.
