Glaucoma Today Outside the Box - Episode 2
“Glaucoma Today Outside the Box” is a television news magazine-style, segmented program from Glaucoma Today and hosted by GT’s Chief Medical Editor, Steven Vold, MD. This ongoing series combines informative interviews on novel surgical techniques, technological advances, and physicians’ accomplishments with an overview of the cover series of each issue of GT, human interest stories, art, and humor. GTOB provides a fun, casual, and personal look into the world of glaucoma medicine to educate and entertain viewers.
In the second episode of GTOB, Dr. Vold and Vance Thompson, MD, expand on GT's July/August cover series on enhancing the patient's experience. Dr. Thompson is the founder of Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He describes the importance of a practice's culture to the delivery of care. Next, Dr. Vold and Robert N. Weinreb, MD, explore new diagnostic technologies such as optical coherence tomography angiography, aqueous angiography, electrophysiology, and pupil-based perimetry. Dr. Weinreb is a distinguished professor of ophthalmology, Morris Gleich chair, and director of the Hamilton Glaucoma Center at University of California, San Diego. Finally, Dr. Vold jumps behind the wheel of a driving simulator when GTOB visits Felipe Medeiros, MD, in the Shiley Eye Center's Visual Performance Laboratory. Dr. Medeiros is the Ben and Wanda Hildyard chair for diseases of the eye as well as a professor of clinical ophthalmology at University of California, San Diego. He takes GTOB viewers to the cutting edge of unconventional vision testing.
